Living in celestial mountains, Agkelos o Fylis often have beautiful wings and great resistance. Even when they are wingless, they are still as quick as a cat.
Physical Qualities
Agkelos o Fylis are divided in three subspecies: the Kreuz, the Zwei and the Wingless. Each of these bear different characteristics.
The Kreuz are four-winged, can reach 1,8m high, and their hair colours can be red, silver or blonde. Their eyes normally have the same colour of their hair. As a result of the four wings, the Kreuz are the best when it comes to long flights since the energy expended by each wing is lessened. However, the extra pair of wings leaves them heavier than the Zwei, which means they are not as quick. The rest of their body is really alike human’s traces.
The Zwei have two wings and can grow up to 1,75m high, being their possible hair colours black, blue and white. As the Kreuz, the eye colours follow the hair patterns, except for white. Indeed, they are extremely fast flying creatures. Differently from the Kreuz, who always bear white skin, unless they are hybrids, slightly brown skins are characteristic of Zweis.
The Wingless, as their name suggest, do not have wings. They normally have brown or black hair and eyes with the same colours. They have a great range of skins, from almost as dark as a drow to white, being blue and red possibilities as well. They are normally the strongest among the Agkelos o Fylis and the quicker on the ground.
Male Agkelos o Fylis can grow facial hair. However, the rest of their body is usually clear of it.
Their life spams are much higher than human’s. The “Angels”, can live up to three or four hundred years.
Society
The Agkelos o Fyli’s society is a monarchy. The nobility is compound only by the Kreuz, who have the sacred gift of four wings. Zweis can hold important duties by born rights; however, they can only earn noble titles if they achieve those by their own feats. When it comes to Wingless, born rights regarding posts are inexistent, so they have to achieve everything by their own feats.
Their major religion, differently from the political system, does not separate Kreuz and Zweis from Wingless. Indeed, the belief of the quantity of wings being sacred or not is social, not religious. The Kyrie religion preaches they must look for peace and equality in rights, evade prejudice and fight for life. They also believe that they should be careful with each other’s feelings and try to be helpful when possible. According to the Kyrians, their treatment regarding the other races should be no different from how they treat their equals.
The Agkelos o Fyli’s celebrate seven yearly festivals which are considered of ultimate importance. In all of those, they forget their origins and positions and get together as a single and united race. The festivals are:
20/01 – Midwinter Day. All children get together to build a giant snowman, while their parents prepare hot drinks and some women sew coats to their beloved.
20/02 – Khaat’s Day. During this day, they start a fast, eating only fruits and vegetables and drinking only juice and water. This lasts until the St Cecilia’s Day, one week later.
27/02 – St Cecilia’s Day. In the city central square, the children act representing the creation of the world by Khaat and how the Agkelos o Fylis developed ever since. After that, they tell St Cecilia’s story and sing a song for her. For many, this is the most cheerful day of the year.
07/07 – Crown’s Day. A king must remember the importance of his position. In the Crown’s Day, the king must visit every single house of the city. Sometimes, the Crown’s Day is called the Crown’s Week or the The Day With More than 24 hours, because it is nearly impossible for a king to visit everyone in one day. Actually, even calling it the Crown’s Week sounds euphemistic, since the visits often last for a month or more.
14/08 – Moon’s Day. They get together to stare at the moon for about an hour, while drinking hot drinks.
10/10 – Fyli Pride Day. During this day, all differences between the subspecies are remembered and exalted. Then, three Fylis enter the stage on behalf of each subspecies and act in a two-hour play reminding all of their differences and similarities and of their importance to the fylian society.
31/12 – Farewell Day. In the last day of the year, they remember their good deeds along that year and make their New Year’s resolutions.
Playing an Agkelos o Fyli
The Agkelos o Fylis are a recluse folk. They often choose to keep apart from the underworld happenings. As a consequence, most people do not trust in their existence, and, when they do, they do not redeem them as dependable. The majority of angels who decide to leave their original cities are either convict criminals or their trackers.
However, in moments of desperate need, the Fylian authorities may turn to help those who live beneath. Even so, they act concealed, since they dislike attention. Indeed, it is something they cannot avoid, since their wings and astonishing beauty call enough attention themselves.
There are also some Agkelos o Fyli who leave their cities seeking more agitated lives, with fights and trips. Those are rare and many times misunderstood by their own race and thus shunned by them. Nevertheless, they do not abandon their traditions.
